The Bar Is Low and That Might Be the Best Thing for the Cowboys
Brett Davis-Imagn Images

The NFL oddsmakers are pretty low on the Dallas Cowboys' chances of success heading into the 2025 NFL season. The Cowboys currently have 50 to 1 odds to win the Super Bowl—meaning a $10 bet could be worth $500 if Dallas is able to win that elusive sixth Lombardi trophy.

The Cowboys being an underdog to win the Super Bowl is understandable, but the oddsmakers also have the Cowboys win projection at 7.5 games this season ... the lowest it’s been since 2003.

But ...

For a team that hasn’t lived up to the hype over the last two decades, low expectations for the Cowboys maybe aren't the worst thing in the world.

Why? Maybe it gives them a chance to surprise rather than disappoint fans.

There is still elite-level talent on the roster in the likes of Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb, and Dak Prescott. And in the previous (to 2024) three years when Prescott was healthy enough to have played double-digit games, Dallas won 12 games in each of those seasons.

Win projections are highly dependent on health, and the fact of the matter is when Prescott is healthy, the Cowboys have consistently been a competitive team.

New head coach Brian Schottenheimer has also brought "immaculate vibes'' to the team and players appear to be buying into the program he is trying to build inside The Star

Dallas undoubtedly has a tough schedule this season, playing both the NFC North and AFC West divisions, in addition to four divisional matchups against the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders, who were both in the NFC Championship Game last season.

However, with a re-energized locker room, key stars still in their prime and no "Super Bowl or Bust'' demands, the Cowboys might just be flying under the radar just enough to surprise the league.
