The Bears could be looking at a team that already has a head coach like the Pittsburgh Steelers but there's a good chance they wouldn't even entertain a trade if the Bears called. The Steelers love Tomlin, from Art Rooney II on down and even if they agreed to trade him, Tomlin would have to sign off on it because he has a no-trade clause in his contract.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Tomlin has a no-trade clause in his contract on Monday after he confirmed that a team tried to call the Steelers about him.
The Bears are looking for a new head coach after they fired Matt Eberflus during the season. He had been the head coach for the last two and a half seasons before the Bears had seen enough.
He coached in 46 games, compiling a 14-32 record. The Bears were 4-8 during the 2024 season when they let go of him.
This is a hire that they need to get right since they have their next franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams. They need someone who can come in and work with him for the next several years since he's going to be here for the long haul.
His development is crucial to the Bears turning this thing around since they haven't made the playoffs since 2020 when they lost in the wild-card round.
We'll see who they interview over the next couple of weeks before making a decision.
