The Cleveland Browns could be officially out of the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes, as they have signed Flacco from the Indianapolis Colts to fight for a spot as a starter versus Deshaun Watson and Kenny Pickett. This move might mean that the Atlanta Falcons will have to keep looking for a suitable trade partner after one of the better options just fell off the table.
This news comes as no shock though as Flacco was a star for his lone season in Cleveland after taking over for Watson and leading them to a postseason berth. Flacco had also served as a reliable backup to Anthony Richardson in Indy and had to start multiple games due to an injury or Richardson's mid-season benching.
The Falcons now find themselves somewhat scrambling to figure out what do with the $180 million man as more and more teams have filled the holes in their QB rooms. We saw the Giants sign Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, The Raiders sign Geno Smith, Seahawks get Sam Darnold, and Justin Fields to the Jets. Aaron Rodgers has also been flirting with the idea of joining the Steelers.
As of right now Cousins will stay on the roster until a team either comes in with an offer, or the Falcons might have to pull the plug entirely. The Steelers are still potentially open for a Cousins trade, if Rodgers decides to take the year off or retire, as he has been rumored to do one or the other.
This situation will heavily continue into the summer and as of right now there are no changes in site after this Browns signing.
