The Buccaneers Have Become Static During The Offseason

When Buccaneers’ wide receiver Mike Evans is the guy yelling at the defense to step it up, you know something is missing.

Jason Licht seems to go into autopilot mode every year during the offseason, drafting a couple of “good” players here and there each season. Then wash, rinse and repeat. Meanwhile the rest of the league is making moves each year to improve.

A Reputation Not Recently Met

This team is known for it’s badass defensive players. Their history is built on them. Lee Roy Selmon, Hardy Nickerson, John Lynch, Warren Sapp, Ndamukong Suh, Jason Pierre-Paul, and of course Derrick Brooks.

The Buccaneers’ teams that won titles weren’t the status-quo, cut and paste teams we see today. They had Sapp, Brooks, Lynch and Ronde Barber. But still went and brought Simeon Rice in to make that defense even nastier. They drafted Vita Vea and Antoine Winfield, but also brought in Suh and JPP to make that defense even nastier.

If the Bucs are going to make any kind of noise again it won’t be because of this status-quo wash rinse repeat routine.

The Buccaneers need to make their defense as scary to play against as they used to be.
Licht needs to become an aggressive beast this offseason. He needs add some nastiness and stop rewashing the laundry!
