The Buffalo Bills acquired Bradley Chubb and DJ Moore following the 2025 offseason. They were busy during the free agency period and leading up to it as well. The period took place March 9th at noon ET and closed March 11 at 4 p.m. ET.

The Bills During The Free Agency Period

The Bills acquired outside linebacker Bradley Chubb from the Miami Dolphins and wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears.

Chubb had been released, and Buffalo signed him to a three-year, $43.5 million contract. This contract is considered to be above average for a free agent veteran.

There had been mutual discussion between the Bills and the Bears leading up to the actions of the Moore trade. The two teams had spoken on March 5, and the Bears needed cap space.

The discussion was considered a “pre-free agency blockbuster.”

Out of the trade for Moore, the Bills also acquired a 2026 fifth-round pick in exchange for their 2026 second-round pick.

The Bills restructured Moore’s contract but included a signing bonus, converting his $22 million. This resulted in a $17.7 million in 2026 cap space. The cap cut was reduced but resulted in $28.9 million in 2027 and a similar continuation of that charge in 2028.

In Moore’s stats for the 2025-26 season, there was a decrease in raw receiving production. Moore did, however, have high leverage efficiency. In addition, he scored six touchdowns during the season. Notably, he scored a 46-yard touchdown in overtime, in which the Bears defeated the Packers.

Chubb had 8.5 sacks during the 2025-26 regular season while managing an ACL tear.

The Bills’ Past With Bold Moves

These bold moves are nothing new coming from the Bills, and they’ve been known for doing this in the past.

This started with the 1979 draft in New York, NY. The Bills selected linebacker Tom Cousineau first overall. Cousineau refused to play for the Bills.

For context, the Montreal Alouettes from the Canadian Football League offered the linebacker a better deal financially. While the Bills offered Cousineau $1.2 million over the course of five years, the Alouettes offered a little over $1 million over the course of three years.

Finances were reportedly only just a part of why Cousineau refused the Bills.

What came out of this pivotal controversy in NFL draft history? Well, Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, Jim Kelly.

The Bills traded the rights of Cousineau to the Cleveland Browns in 1982. In exchange, the Browns gave the Bills their 1983 first overall.

In 1983, the Bills drafted Kelly. He then led the Bills to four back-to-back Super Bowl appearances in 1991-94. Stew Barber was the general manager at the time of the Cousineau trade.

The Bills’ Present With Bold Moves

The Bills didn’t stop there and had many other bold moves. Another to take note of is quarterback Josh Allen.

In 2018, the Bills drafted Allen seventh overall. He had the reputation of being inconsistent with his natural mechanics and inaccuracy.

For reference, Allen attended the University of Wyoming. This university has been recognized as challenging for the development of athletes due to limited resources.

It was clear that Allen wasn’t perceived to be a starting quarterback. General manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott saw his raw talents and potential as a cornerstone for the franchise.

Beane and McDermott were right. Since drafting Allen, the Bills became Super Bowl contenders after a 17-year playoff drought.

End Of My Buffalo Bills Rant

By acquiring Moore and Chubb, the Bills will have more to add with veteran mindsets. In addition, Allen will have a complimentary wide receiver. It will be exciting to see how the new additions settle in as Bills.
