The Washington Commanders are preparing for the regular season with the New York Giants coming to town, but there has been one thing missing on the roster. After cutting down to a 53-man roster, the team had to put together its practice squad, which can be 17 players with an International player included.
The Commander mainly filled the practice squad with 14 players they had released, but they also added running back Donovan Edwards and cornerback Darius Rush. One spot remained, and they filled it with a former SEC player from another team who could fill a major need.

After roster cuts, the team doesn't have a true backup center listed on the depth chart, but Darrian Dalcourt could develop into the next backup for the Commanders at only 24 years old.
Dalcourt was part of the Alabama Crimson Tide offensive line that was feared all across the country. He primarily played at center for a few seasons before he moved to right guard for his final year in 2023. On 781 pass blocking snaps, Dalcourt only allowed two sacks. He's a better pass blocker than he is a run blocker, and he can continue to get better as he enters his second season.
Dalcourt went undrafted in 2024 and joined the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad, where he stayed all of last season. He isn't immediately needed on the Commanders roster, but he's another good stash and develop player to add to the practice squad. His tape showed traits that get you excited, and the sky can be the limit if he's tapped into more.
The Ravens are going to get a closer look at Darrian Dalcourt, center from Alamaba.

Adam Peters has done extensive work on the offensive line, but the biggest concern remaining has been the backup center spot. Michael Deiter was the backup last year, but it didn't go well when he stepped in for the starter, Tyler Biadasz. Deiter was one of the players released on cut day, but he was brought back to the practice squad. That signaled that they knew they could upgrade the position.
Nick Allegreti earned reps at center during training camp, and I'm sure he's the backup center option in an emergency. You always hope that you don't need to go to your backup at any position, but the center is responsible for making sure the play even happens, and things can go downhill fast if you don't have it figured out.
The Commanders have been quietly adding players to the practice squad who could continue to develop and work their way to the active roster, and Dalcourt could be another one of those future guys.
