The Commanders' recent injury report shows the worst news possible, even with Jayden Daniels returning

The Washington Commanders returned to practice on Wednesday with the news they've all been waiting for: Jayden Daniels is back as a full participant.

The good news, however, comes with some awful news to an already severely injured roster. Daniels might be taking the field with three of his top weapons out, and the defense could have yet another glaring hole on it with a new injury to a corner.

Buckle up, because the week is off to a rough start with a really long injury report to watch before the team hits the road.

Commanders' injury observations

Daniels looks to start on Sunday, but Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, and Noah Brown all were out today, which is the last thing you want to see. McLaurin has been out since he left the Las Vegas Raiders game with his quad injury, and has been considered "week to week" by head coach Dan Quinn. There's a chance Luke McCaffrey is WR1 on Sunday.

Brown has been out even longer, and injuries are unfortunately the new norm for him. Samuel is a new injury that popped up today, and we will have to keep an eye on the next two days to see his game status. Another major new injury is Mike Sainristil's knee, which would be a disaster for an already liability-filled secondary on defense.

More positive news, however, is that Sam Cosmi is returning to practice for the first time since he tore his ACL in the playoffs last season, and he should make his season debut in the next two or three weeks with his 21-day window open. Tight end John Bates coming back is also huge with his blocking for Daniels, and in the run game.

Injuries are part of the game, but this list is getting ridiculous for the Commanders. They take one major step forward by getting Daniels back, but take five steps back with existing injuries not progressing any, and new ones popping up for vital starters.
