The Dallas Cowboys are already dealing with a major training camp headache as start date quickly approaches

The Dallas Cowboys report to Oxnard, California for training camp in late July, with the first practice scheduled for July 22

As the date approaches, all eyes are on superstar defender Micah Parsons, who is negotiating a long-term extension with the Cowboys and is expected to sit out of practice without a deal in place.

However, the front office is already dealing with another defender that might be forced to sit out or not even report: Second-round draft pick Donovan Ezeiruaku.

Donovan Ezeiruaku is part of a major training camp problem the NFL is facing

The Los Angeles Chargers' training camp began earlier this week for rookies and second-round draft pick Tre Harris became officially a holdout. There's major concern the trend will follow with almost every player picked in the second round in April.

Days away from training camp, there are 30 second-round draft picks who have yet to sign with their respective NFL teams. Ezeiruaku is one of them

The league-wide problem is the result of the first two rookies selected in the round signing fully guaranteed deals: LB Carson Schwesinger (Cleveland Browns) and WR Jayden Higgins (Houston Texans)

Rookie deals for draft picks have pre-established values agreed by the NFL and NFLPA through their Collective Bargaining Agreement. However, guarantees and specific language for those guarantees are negotiated. When both  Schwesinger and Higgins received fully guaranteed deals earlier in the offseason, they set a precedent that every agent wants to take advantage of.

In other words, the league is facing a potential group of 30 second-round players holding out early in training camp. It's a complicated situation for the league as the players have leverage in numbers.

It's difficult to put a finger on when this will be solved. At any given moment, one domino will fall and at that point, all bets are off. It will either be a collective win for the teams or a massive win for the players. But it will take a full group to move forward.

For the Cowboys, the good news is Ezeiruaku is letting things play out and he'll be ready to go when it's time.

“I’m here doing what I have to do every single day," Ezeiruaku told reporters in June. "That’s between the organization and my agent. I have full faith that they’re gonna get that done. When it’s ready, it’ll be ready and I’ll sign that piece of paper.”
