The Dallas Cowboys are filling out their coaching staff for the 2025 season but still don't have an offensive coordinator.
Brian Schottenheimer is the team's new head coach, Matt Eberflus is the defensive coordinator, and Nick Sorensen is the special teams coordinator.
The Cowboys are taking their time with their search for an offensive coordinator and according to Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones, they want an OC that can help with the running game.
"We want to be able to run the ball," Jones said, via Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com. "Everybody says that we want to run the ball and we want to stop the run, and certainly that's what we want to do. That's what great championship football teams do, and I know coach Schottenheimer wants to do that."
Schottenheimer will be calling the plays this season and wants someone who can really help in the run game.
The Cowboys struggled to run the ball during the 2024 season, finishing with only 1,705 yards on the ground and six touchdowns. They also averaged only four yards per carry.
Rico Dowdle was by far their top rusher, finishing the season with 235 carries for 1,079 yards and two touchdowns. Dowdle is a fine running back but they still need help at that position if they want to have a better running game in 2025.
The Cowboys finished the 2024 season with a 7-10 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season. They have a lot of holes to fill if their goal is to return to the postseason in 2025.
Look for them to be fairly active during free agency and the 2025 NFL Draft since they're looking for immediate help at some positions.
