The Dolphins’ Offensive Line Has a Question of Depth

All off-season long, we have all heard about the added depth along the offensive line.

After all, the last few years, the lack of quality offensive linemen has been the team’s undoing.

In 2023, which was the best season that the franchise has had in a long time, everything seemed to go swimmingly.

The offense, buoyed by one of the best offensive lines that the team had seen in nearly a decade, was performing at record levels.

That was partly because of the play of Terron Armstead, Connor Williams, Robert Hunt, Isaiah Wynn, and Austin Jackson.

Towards the end of the season, that starting five had been decimated by injuries, and with it, the season was decimated too.

Chris Grier tried to rectify that issue this offseason by signing multiple offensive linemen, along with adding players in the draft.

In the spring, the team added Larry Borom, Liam Eichenberg, James Daniels, and Jonah Savaiinaea.

That should have been enough, right?

Wrong.

To start camp, Eichenberg was placed on the physically unable to perform list.

Aaron Brewer has dealt with a nagging injury.

In the latest development, Jackson has a lower-body injury.

While he should be ready for camp, the amount of attrition that the group has already seen is concerning.

Thankfully, the reports out of camp on Borom, the replacement for Jackson on the right side of the line, have been encouraging.

Truthfully, they better be.

Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel staked their careers on having quality offensive line insurance for when the inevitable happened and injuries struck the offensive line.

If the depth isn’t strong enough up front, the season will go up in smoke.

And it’s not like Miami will sign any street free agents at this point in time to change the complexion of the group.

The Dolphins already tried to bring in Daniel Brunskill as added depth at the start of camp.

That has not worked out.

That puts the hope of the unit on Borom, Eichenberg, and other pieces, such as Andrew Meyer.

Let’s hope Grier chose the right people to break the glass in case of an emergency.
