The Eagles will hold a big advantage over the Chiefs since they play the Dallas Cowboys in the Thursday Night NFL season opening in Week 1, which means some extra days of rest and preparation.
The Chiefs, however, play the Friday before but they are in Brazil, so they could be a little hungover from their oversees road trip. It does help that they are getting the homefield advantage.
In their previous meeting during Super Bowl LIX, the Eagles secured a historic 40–22 victory over the Chiefs. Quarterback Jalen Hurts led Philadelphia's offense, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, and added 72 rushing yards with a touchdown on the ground. Wide receiver DeVonta Smith contributed significantly with 69 receiving yards and a touchdown, while kicker Jake Elliott tied a Super Bowl record by making four field goals.
On the Chiefs' side, quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns but was intercepted twice and sacked six times. Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy had a standout performance with eight receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns. Despite these efforts, the Chiefs struggled with time of possession, holding the ball for just over 23 minutes compared to the Eagles' nearly 37 minutes.
This upcoming rematch offers the Chiefs an opportunity to avenge their Super Bowl loss and for the Eagles to reinforce their dominance. With both teams boasting strong rosters and high expectations, this Week 2 matchup is poised to be one of the early highlights and treats of the 2025 NFL season.
