The Cincinnati Bengals have no doubt been one of, if not the biggest underperforming team in the NFL this season, and this stat pretty much sums up their season.
The Cincinnati Bengals have scored 25 points or more in eight games this season. Their record in those games: 2-6. One of the best all around offenses in the NFL is being wasted on a weekly basis.
Those losses came against the Chiefs, Commanders, Ravens (twice), Chargers and Steelers.
Heading into the season, the Bengals were expected to be one of the powerhouse teams in the AFC, competing with the likes of the Chiefs and the Bills to be the conference's top team, but that has been far from reality this season.
The Bengals currently sit tied for 29th in points allowed per game, allowing a staggering 28.3 points per game.
Unfortunately for the Bengals, the player who is having his season wasted the most out of any is Joe Burrow. The quarterback is putting up MVP-caliber numbers this season, but with his team sitting at 4-8, not much attention has been put on his outstanding season. All the attention is on the shortcomings of the Bengals.
Burrow currently leads the league in both passing yards (3,337) and touchdown passes (30) while only having thrown five interceptions. If it wasn't for the Bengals' disastrous season, Burrow would easily be in the discussion with Saquon Barkley and Josh Allen for league MVP this year.
The road ahead does not get any easier for the Bengals, as they have to play a resurgent Cowboys team on Monday night, with games against the Broncos and Steelers still to come.
