After costing the Falcons a chance at overtime on Sunday with a missed extra point, Parker Romo has been released in favor of veteran kicker Zane Gonzalez.

Zane Gonzalez will become the Falcons’ third kicker of the season. Atlanta decided to move on from Younghoe Koo after his struggles from last year carried over into this season, including a costly miss in Week 1 against the Buccaneers.
That opened the door for Parker Romo, but he failed to capitalize on the opportunity. In seven games with the Falcons, Romo converted just 78.6% of his field goal attempts — ranking 25th in the NFL — and went only 2-for-4 from beyond 40 yards.
His replacement, Zane Gonzalez, hasn’t seen much action in the league over the past three years. He appeared in six games for the Commanders last season, making 5-of-7 field goals, after missing the previous two years due to injuries. Before that, Gonzalez had a strong 2021 campaign with the Panthers, hitting 90.9% of his field goal attempts in 12 games.
