The shortlist of best NFL head coaches in the NFL doesn't gather many names before 'Sean McVay' comes up. The Los Angeles Rams have enjoyed the best stretch of their franchise since the Greatest Show on Turf and, if you're only counting the time in Los Angeles, going back to Chuck Knox in the 1970s.
The versatility of the Rams under McVay is what really shines. They built up an all-star roster early on but transitioned into a youth movement that has reset the competitive window for the Rams and has buzz around another Super Bowl in 2025.
And, according to one of the new faces in the building this offseason, it is McVay's mindset that is driving him down a historic trajectory as a coach.
“He has the growth in his mind, which is the mentality of all the greats… Jordan’s that way, Kobe…”

You hear plenty of players invoked in regard to the "Mamba mentality" or compared to Jordan — although neither is a comparison that should be thrown around carelessly. Adams hasn't overlapped with any basketball greats but he is uniquely qualified to understand what greatness in the NFL looks like and who has been able to sustain it. Davante Adams now finds himself on his fourth organization in the last five years after eight years in Green Bay. He sees it in McVay.
"(McVay) has the growth of mind when he's talking about not being satisfied with what he's done. Which is the mentality of all the greats. I feel like Jordan was that way, Kobe with 'the job's not finished' — that whole mentality, the greats are never satisfied with where they are and they're always trying to elevate. Having won a Super Bowl, he knows what it takes now so when you see certain things...you as a great want to sit there and just kind of be like 'appreciate it but let's ease up a little bit on the congratulations' and we'll continue to push and match what we've done."

McVay has been transparent in the past about his struggles with balancing his thirst for success with healthy habits. The experience he now has a head coaching going into his ninth-season yet still on 39 years old, should continue to propel him forward with a chance to challenge for historic win numbers thanks to his proven track record of player development and scheme innovation.
Adams hopes to help him achieve the next notch in his belt, which would also happen to be Adams' first trip to the top of the mountain.
