The James Cook contract drama just got a whole lot worse for the Buffalo Bills following latest NFL news

The Buffalo Bills just got some bad news, and it has nothing to do with their team or even the organization. It all surrounds the current contract negotiations surrounding James Cook. For those unaware, Cook has been absent from practice as a holdout and has cited "business" being the main reason for his decision to hold out.

Cook is demanding a new contract for the organization after a successful year in which the talented RB gained 1,009 yards rushing with 258 yards receiving, with 18 total touchdowns, including one of my absolute favorite touchdowns from last season.

A recent deal made by the Los Angeles Rams with their very own RB could be the deal that needed to get done before the Bills and James Cook escalated their contract talks, as reported by Adam Schefter.

The Rams and RB Kyren Williams reached an agreement on a three-year, $33M extension, which includes $23M in guaranteed money, a huge payday for one of the most underrated players in the league. Compared with Cook, Williams finished his season with 1,299 yards on the ground with 182 yards receiving and 16 total touchdowns.

Williams' new deal complicates things for the Bills and James Cook

This move could be detrimental for the Bills as Cook's deal could be even more lucrative than the one secured by Williams; it could mean more of a market reset for what a catch-passing RB can bring in.

James Cook could see this as his floor for what he's hoping for a new contract, while the Buffalo Bills and the front office might potentially see this as a ceiling for what they're hoping to pay their running back.

The two parties have already been at an impasse, as Cook has already missed time for the holdout with no signs of him changing his ways anytime soon. If Cook refuses to budge, and the team follows suit, it could mean a messy few weeks at One Bills Drive with one of their premier offensive weapons for Josh Allen. Put plainly, this could get ugly, and fast. Cook wants to get paid, and the two have been close in recent talks. Will that change now that Williams got paid, and will Cook now demand more money after seeing the fresh market reset?

We saw big money last season given out to Saquon Barkley that proved more than fruitful for the Eagles organization.

Now, as Joe Buscaglia from The Athletic reported, it's "notable for James Cook conversations, though still requires some nuance due to the roles of Williams and Cook being quite different for their respective teams."

All eyes are surely going to be on Buffalo, and we have a feeling that if a Cook deal isn't done, it won't be the last week that the talented RB is missing out on practice for "business" reasons.
