The Jared Goff-Jameson Williams connection is already turning heads in Lions OTAs

There's been a lot of potentially overblown handwringing related to the retirement of Frank Ragnow from the Detroit Lions for the last few days.

Will the Lions look as good as they did on offense without him as a pass protector for Jared Goff? Will they suffer in their run game because of it? Will Detroit even be a contender in the league, let alone in their division, with Ragnow's departure?

We simply can't answer any of these questions without seeing some real football played, and we can only rely on OTAs to understand where each teams' offense sits this early in the 2025 season. For the Lions, we can at least rely on their social media team to share the highlights from these practices to quell our concerns regarding Ragnow's retirement.

One clip emerged from this week's OTAs that should have all Detroit fans buzzing with excitement. Jameson Williams, one of their top wide receivers that may or may not have been on the trade block this offseason, is coming into this season with extremely high expectations alongside Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Given this clip out of Lions OTAs showing a great play between Goff and Williams, it feels safe to say that the receiver is on the right track to beat out those expectations in 2025.

Williams turns heads with fantastic catch from Goff

Williams' catch here, which he completed after fully dusting Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in coverage, is a great sign for him and Goff in terms of their early chemistry and Williams' ability to be a big play maker. Obviously, this is just practice, so it's hard to put too much stock into a clip like this. But, Williams has the ability to keep up this level of playmaking for a full season if healthy - that's what makes the clip exciting.

After a weirdly dramatic offseason involving Williams and the Lions, he's here to stay to jolt their offense moving forward. Williams, St. Brown, David Montgomery, and Jahmyr Gibbs can help to alleviate the blow of Ragnow leaving, but he did play a direct role in all of their success by being one of the best centers in the NFL for so long.
