The latest on the Eagles' Tush Push ban voting and what to expect
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Today, all 32 NFL owners are set to vote on whether or not the league should ban the Tush Push play.

Last month’s vote ended in a 16-16 tie, prompting the league to make a final decision this week.

However, according to The Athletic's NFL insider Dianna Russini, the league has already made up their mind.

"Hours away from the owners’ vote surrounding the future of the tush push, I’m told both the league’s competition and players’ health and safety committees have voted to ban the play," Russini wrote on X/Twitter Wednesday morning. "Despite the Eagles’ best efforts, the tush push is likely on its way out, sources say."

Before the voting went down again this week, the Green Bay Packers reintroduced a revised proposal. The new language aims to outlaw any form of offensive assistance, including pushing, pulling, or lifting the ball carrier, regardless of the direction or timing. This mirrors a pre-2005 NFL rule that was repealed due to enforcement challenges.

The Packers and other teams against the Tush Push have cited concerns over player safety and game disruption, despite limited data on injuries linked to the play. Those for the Tush Push argue the move penalizes strategic innovation and note that the play has not led to a notable increase in injuries.

It's rumored to believe that banning the Tush Push is what NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has wanted all along.

And it looks like he might just get his way if 24 owners vote for the ban today.

If that is the case, it is very unfortunate for the Eagles, who have worked tirelessly to perfect the play.

"I can't tell you how many times we've practiced the snap, we've practiced the play -- it's not a play that's easy to practice, so there's different ways we've figured out how to practice it -- the complements that come off of it that can create explosive plays," head coach Nick Sirianni said at the NFL Combine. "The fact that it's [portrayed] as an automatic thing, we work really hard, and our guys are talented at this play, and so it's a little insulting to say we're good at it so it's automatic. We work really hard at it."
