The Lions are bringing back Jackson Meeks to the practice squad, could help the Lions land a big fish

The Detroit Lions have been making some curious moves all week, and one of the biggest ones was when they cut undrafted rookie receiver Jackson Meeks. He had a great summer and really showed out in the preseason games. So naturally, it was shocking to see him cut. It was even more shocking after the Lions traded Tim Patrick on Wednesday morning because the expectation was that if Meeks stays and TeSlaa gets the WR3 spot, Patrick could be moved.

A source told A to Z Sports on Wednesday that if Meeks cleared waivers, he planned to sign with the Lions' practice squad. Well, Meeks has officially cleared waivers, and he will be back with the Lions in 2025, per Nolan Bianchi of the Detroit News . As for why he didn't join the 53-man roster, it could be a similar situation to last season, when Patrick and Allen Robinson were added to the practice squad and then eventually signed Patrick to the 53-man roster. Perhaps the Lions could be looking to add Meeks later.

This move, of course, could also lead to another big signing for the Lions as he is Za'Darius Smith's nephew. Having a little family reunion in Detroit could be good for all parties involved.

The Lions may not be done at receiver just yet. Tom Kennedy is back, but perhaps someone from the outside could still be joining the practice squad before you know it. Keep an eye on our practice squad tracker below.
