The Lions are looking to give an under the radar defensive lineman more snaps as an edge rusher

After training camp, the Detroit Lions surprised some when they didn't hold on to any of the undrafted edge rushers like Keith Cooper or Nate Lynn. Neither guy made the 53-man roster. Instead, the Lions looked to claim a couple of defensive linemen off the waiver wire. They've both played by now, and one of them might have earned himself some extra looks at a position he hasn't traditionally played.

The Lions plan to continue to see what they can get out of Tyler Lacy at edge rusher

Lacy comes from the Jaguars, where he was their starting nose tackle and/or three technique. He played on the edge here and there in his rookie year, but more than anything, he's been in the middle. Against the Browns, the Lions made Lacy active for the second time this season, and he had a strong showing. He put up three pressures and a tackle on 27 snaps. When asked about his game, Campbell talked about how the Lions want to see what he does there more and the versatility he brings.

"Well, number one, he plays hard, and that showed up on that tape. He's got length, and he sets edges." Cmapbell said on Wednesday. "Like you can see him, he plays big, he plays stout, he plays strong, and then there's enough in there. When you see him catch an edge, man, he can push the pocket, and that's exactly what we're looking for. So we saw those, what I just said, and then we see versatility, like we think he can play some of this big end too, you know? And, yeah, he played more nose, some three technique. But we're like, 'Man, this guy can play big end.' He's a good enough athlete to do that, and so that's where we've kind of, you know, used him a little bit in that regard. But we do think he's got versatility."

This is another strong example of the Lions having strong defensive line depth and showing that they were right not to go out and spend a ton on another edge rusher when they have guys with versatility who can bring pressure from multiple areas. We'll see how Lacy plays against the Bengals and see if he gets more snaps in this one after a solid outing.
