There are two words that I have typed more than any other two words since last February when it comes to the Detroit Lions. Those two words are edge and rusher. That has been the big thing that Lions fans have wanted the most. They wanted it in free agency, and it didn't happen, and they wanted it in the draft, and it sort of happened with Ahmed Hassanein in the sixth round.
Now they want it at the trade deadline. Well, guess what, you might actually get it this time.
Unfortunately, that's all we know at this time: the Lions are making calls. We don't know what teams they're calling and who they're calling those teams about. What we do know is who may be available right now. Here's a list of edges that are expected to be traded at the trade deadline.
Look, I would just look past the final guy on that list if I were you. It's probaly not happening. Thinbodeaux is possible, but I just don't know if I see Holmes making that deal. What's more likely is the first four guys. What feels absolutley the most likely is the first guy on the list. The Titans are going to be in sale mode, and the Key is a pretty inexpensive contract-wise and should be inexpensive trade-wise too.
I know a lot of Lions fans have sort of shifted their focus to trading for a cornerback, and that makes some sense, but Terrion Arnold just returned to practice on Friday, and then Avonte Maddox is expected back after the bye, and D.J. Reed could be ready, too. It no longer makes sense.
What does make sense is to keep building upon this pass rush that's been one of the best in the league this year. Another addition, along with the returns of Alim McNeill and Marcus Davenport, and the rise of Al-Quadin Muhammad, could bring this thing over the top.
We'll see what happens during the bye week, but it should be noted that just because calls are being made, that doesn't mean a deal is imminent. It takes two to tango, and if a deal can't be done, it is what it is.
