The Los Angeles Chargers Are Signing Justin Herbert’s Brother

After Sunday’s roster deadline, teams are off to the waiver wire to claim underappreciated talents or sign them after clearing waivers. For the Los Angeles Chargers, it was a perfect time to reunite the Herbert brothers, Justin and Patrick.

While Justin’s on and off-field life has progressed, his little brother is still struggling to secure a roster spot at the NFL level.

Patrick, a former Oregon standout, was undrafted in 2025. He was then signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent. He was subsequently waived and signed again by the Jaguars, but this time he was assigned to their practice squad.

Patrick was waived by the Jaguars on Sunday. Despite fielding multiple offers, the tight end chose the Los Angeles Chargers for his next destination. The team signed him to their practice squad.

This would reunite the brothers for the first time since 2019. Justin was the star quarterback for Oregon back then. Patrick, on the other hand, was a freshman TE. However, their time together on the field was short.

Patrick only appeared in two games and redshirted his first year. Both brothers have limited combined action on the field.

Limited Chance For Patrick To Play For The Chargers

The Chargers’ practice squad isn’t short of talented names. Maybe the younger Herbert could find a way to get noticed. Unfortunately, even if he impresses, the team is stacked at tight end.

They currently have David Njoku, Charlie Kolar, and Oronde Gadsden. All three are expected to make an impact for the team next season. But if there’s an unforeseen injury, Justin Herbert’s younger brother might get the call. It’s a long season, so who knows?

Aside from the Patrick Herbert signing, the Los Angeles Chargers have played their cards well this offseason. They have gained a couple of future picks after dealing away a couple of undrafted players.
