There is mutual interest between Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson and the Minnesota Vikings for a potential trade. The Colts have granted Richardson permission to seek a trade.
“You’re a bad dude and you’re going to play a long time in this league. I still believe in you,” Kevin O’Connell stated after the Colts vs Vikings game in 2024.
There is a zero percent chance Richardson ends up in Minnesota. The Vikings already have a young but talented QB they need to develop in JJ McCarthy. Everyone is talking about a smart, accurate veteran who can play if need be, and Anthony is the furthest thing from that.
Richardson only really makes sense for the Vikings if they sign an established veteran like Kirk Cousins and trade McCarthy away. It does not really make any sense for them to have two guys who have not put it together.
Kevin does not need another project. He has been injured every season and thus far has not shown team leadership. This is not the long-term solution for this organization.
It depends on what the ask is and also what his expectations are. If he comes in as the Max Brosmer replacement and still gets to compete for the starting job, then there should not be a problem with that.
Richardson was over-drafted to begin with as the 4th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He only played 17 games in over three seasons. Having a big arm means nothing if he cannot read a defense or throw with accuracy.
The relationship between Anthony and Indianapolis, or the fit within their system, has reached a breaking point. If he finds the right coaching staff and offensive scheme, he could still turn into a superstar. The Colts are choosing stability over potential fireworks.
