Happy 45th birthday to six-time 1,000-yard rusher, two-time Pro Bowler and 2002 Offensive Rookie of the Year, Clinton Portis!
Portis was a second-round pick in the 2002 NFL Draft out of Miami by the Denver Broncos, and he immediately rewarded the Broncos with 1,508 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground to go with another 364 yards and two TDs on 33 catches as a rookie to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
He made his first Pro Bowl in 2003 with 1,591 yards and another 14 scores, leading the NFL with 5.5 yards-per-attempt. After 3,099 yards and 29 rushing TDs combined across his first two professional campaigns, Portis was traded to Washington ahead of the 2004 season, where he’d spend the rest of his career. Washington wasn’t shy about putting the ball in Portis’ hands, with the Mississippi native recording at least 300 carries in every full-season he played in the nation’s capital.
The mileage eventually caught up with Portis, who combined for just 13 games across the 2009 and 2010 seasons before hanging up his cleats just 77 yards short of 10,000 for his career.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Portis is one of 17 players in NFL history to rush for multiple touchdowns 20+ games in their career. With that being said, how many of the players with at least 15 such games can name in five minutes?
Good luck!
