The most overpaid & underpaid players at every NFL position

The payday is coming soon, but for now Mr. Irrelevant 2022 remains the best bargain in the league. Purdy led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in only his second season, but his cap hit is just above $1 million in 2024.

It could be time for the Giants to move on from Jones, who has struggled since signing in 2023. He has the second-highest cap hit among quarterbacks in 2024 at nearly $48 million, but was 2-8 in his first 10 games.

The Chiefs are excited to see Pacheco return after fracturing his leg early this season. He was a key starter in his first two seasons, and his cap hit is only about $1 million as a former seventh-round pick.

Sanders has been a bust since the Panthers paid him in free agency last year. His cap hit ranks fourth among running backs at nearly $7.7 million, but he saw only 38 carries through 10 games this year.

Nacua missed the early part of 2024 due to injury, but that doesn't erase his great value for the Rams. He was a Pro Bowler in his rookie season as a fifth-round pick and remains a great bargain this year at under $1 million.

The Jets signed Lazard to reunite with Aaron Rodgers last year, but the former Packer hasn't done much in a Jets uniform. He had only 311 yards on 23 catches in 2023, and had 30 catches for 412 yards through 10 weeks this season. Lazard's cap hit is nearly $12.2 million.

LaPorta was another great Iowa tight end to make the NFL, and had a breakout rookie season as a second-round pick. He made the Pro Bowl last year and remains a key part of Detroit's offense. His cap hit is less than $2.2 million.

Higbee's knee injury suffered late last season has sidelined him for all of 2024. Even when on the field, his cap hit is very high at about $12.6 million, third most at his position.

Tom has emerged as a solid right tackle for the Packers in his three seasons after becoming a regular starter in 2023. The former fourth-rounder has played every snap this year, and his cap hit is about $1.1 million.

The heavily penalized Taylor has proven very reliable for the Chiefs' offense, but his slip-ups have hurt the team on occasion. His cap hit, over $19.4 million, is eighth highest among all tackles.

Smith fell to the sixth round in 2021 due to health reasons, but immediately stepped in as a solid starter. His $3.4 million cap hit remains a great value.

Scherff has put his injury history behind him since joining the Jags in 2022, but his play has slipped more recently. He has the ninth highest cap hit among guards at nearly $11.6 million.

Frazier is having a fantastic rookie season after being drafted in the second round. The West Virginia alum has a cap hit of under $1.4 million despite his elite performance.

New England's long-time center struggled early this year and was lost for the season in Week 4 due to a shoulder injury. He has the fourth-highest cap hit at the position at just over $7.6 million.

McDonald has found his footing in his second NFL season, recording eight sacks in 10 games. The Jets still have him for the relatively cheap price of about $3.7 million.

Miller is on the back end of his career and isn't nearly as productive as his early days. After failing to record a sack last season, he has only three sacks in six games this year and missed time to a suspension. His cap hit remains sizeable at over $14.8 million.

The Ravens have had no problem drafting and developing formidable players for their front seven. Jones has been elite in his third season plugging the gut, but his cap hit is less than $1.5 million.

Rankins is with his third team in three years, and his play has fallen off at age 30 with only one sack and 18 tackles in seven games. His cap hit of nearly $12 million is top 10 at the position.

Baun has been a great find for Philly after spending his first four seasons in New Orleans. He's having a breakout year as a starter with 87 tackles and two sacks, but his cap hit is only $1.6 million.

Milano is a former All-Pro and difference-maker when he's on the field, but those opportunities have been few since last year. He played only five games last season and hasn't played in 2024. Milano's cap hit is over $12.4 million.

Landman has missed time due to injury this year, but remains very productive. He had 110 tackles last year and 44 tackles in his first six games this season. The former undrafted free agent has a minuscule cap hit of just over $500,000.

Chicago's bold addition of Edmunds last year remains shaky. He continues to pile up tackles but hasn't been a huge asset overall, and has a cap hit of nearly $22.5 million.

Benford was a find for the Bills as a sixth-round pick in 2022. He continues to play well as a starter, and has a cap hit just over $1 million.

Sneed got paid by the Titans in the offseason after an excellent four years in KC. Unfortunately, he's been injured and seen his play drop off with his new team. Sneed's cap hit is nearly $10 million, 12th highest at corner.

Branch was a great find in Detroit's excellent 2023 draft as a second-round pick. The Alabama alum is playing at a Pro Bowl level but drawing just over $1.8 million.

Williams has struggled to make big plays this year, with only two passes defensed and no picks through nine games. His cap hit is fourth among safeties at more than $18.7 million.
