Since the Las Vegas Raiders selected Fernando Mendoza with the first-overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and brought in veteran Kirk Cousins, the expectation for most was that Raiders would roll with Cousins as their QB1 to begin the year.
Now they’ve finally made that official, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter posting the news that Cousins will start Week 1 against Miami on social media on Wednesday.
Cousins is coming off of a disappointing tenure in Atlanta, where he left with a winning record (12-10) and 28 touchdowns to 21 interceptions in two seasons, but never lived up to the four-year, $180 million contract he signed ahead of the 2024 campaign.
Heading into his age-38 season and 15th as a professional quarterback, Cousins is clearly serving as a bridge and mentor to the 2026 Heisman Trophy and national title winner, and Raiders general manager John Spytek hinted we might see Mendoza sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, Raiders fans will hope he’s able to give them more to cheer for than did the combination of Geno Smith and Kenny Pickett en route to a 3-14 record in 2025.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Cousins’ 167 starts are the 29th-most by an NFL quarterback in the Super Bowl era (since 1966). With that being said, how many of the QBs to start at least 150 games under center in the Super Bowl era can you name in six minutes?
Good luck!
