If the New York Giants were purposefully trying to tank the career of former Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt, I’m not sure they'd do anything differently than they have over the past year.
Hyatt barely played last season after showing promise as a rookie in 2023.
The former Vol entered the 2025 season on a mission to prove he belongs in the NFL.
Hyatt, however, has yet to see a single snap for the Giants through the first two weeks of the season. The former third round draft pick saw zero snaps in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders. In week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys, Hyatt was the only active player for the Giants to not receive a snap.
"Last year, these kinds of things started happening, and it got in my head too much," said Hyatt last week to NJ.com. "So when I did have a chance, I didn't take advantage of it. This year, I want to do it different. OK, I got zero snaps [in Week 1]. That's cool. Let's zone in on this week. Anything can happen. If my opportunity is there, I'm going to take advantage of it."
Hyatt is clearly eager for an opportunity, but it doesn't look like that opportunity will be coming with the Giants anytime soon.
Which begs the question: Why won't the Giants trade Hyatt?
New York reportedly received calls on Hyatt ahead of the 2025 season. The Giants, however, showed no interest in trading the former Vol.

Hyatt obviously just wants an opportunity to play. The Giants, meanwhile, seem content to hold Hyatt hostage while burying him on the depth chart.
Tom Petty said the waiting is the hardest part. That's certainly true for Hyatt -- especially since there's no end in sight to the waiting game.
