The next big move for each team in AFC West

Don't let the calendar fool you because there's plenty of work to be done in the AFC West. With training camps more than two months away, here's one move each team should make.

Denver Broncos

Sign a defensive end: Former Denver DE Dre'Mont Jones signed a three-year deal with Seattle. Despite signing Zach Allen as a replacement, the Broncos need more depth. Their pass rush was a weak point last season, only recording 36 sacks in 17 games, tied for 24th in the league.

Several great options exist in free agency, such as former Pro Bowlers Frank Clark, Robert Quinn and Yannick Ngauoke. Ngauoke would be the best option because he's only 28 and had 9.5 sacks in 15 games last season.

Kansas City Chiefs

Extend DT Chris Jones: One year remains on Jones' contract, whom Kansas City should extend after a dominant 2022 season. In 17 games, the 28-year-old tied for the fourth-most sacks in the league (15.5), earned a first-team All-Pro nod and finished third in Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Dallas' Micah Parsons and San Francisco's Nick Bosa.

Per The Athletic's Nate Taylor, Jones wants a deal that makes him the league's second-highest-paid DT. It's a steep price for Kansas City, who is last in cap space ($1.1M) per Spotrac. The Chiefs should find a way to pay the man, however, because Jones could help them win more Super Bowls.

Las Vegas Raiders

Sign free-agent CB Marcus Peters: The pass defense was awful for the Raiders last season, ranking 29th in yards allowed. The Raiders signed CB Brandon Facyson and drafted Jakorian Bennett, but more depth is needed to fortify the secondary.

Peters, 30, is an eight-year veteran, three-time Pro Bowler and still a viable starter. After missing the 2021 season with a torn ACL, he started 13 games with Baltimore in 2022, recording 47 tackles and one interception. Peters recently visited with the Raiders, so there is a mutual interest.

Los Angeles Chargers

Sign a running back: Given the Austin Ekeler situation, the Chargers should add one more RB as a contingency plan. Ekeler has one year left on his contract and extension talks stalled this offseason. Los Angeles allowed him to seek a trade, raising questions about his future as a Charger.

The Chargers did not draft a running back, and backup Joshua Kelley has 287 rushing yards in three seasons. Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette and Kareem Hunt remain on the free-agent market. Each could serve as a solid RB2. Elliott might be the preferred option since he played for Chargers OC Kellen Moore from 2019-22 when he was Dallas OC.
