A new era may be underway in East Rutherford, New Jersey as the New York Giants head into Year 1 with John Harbaugh, but a familiar face is returning to the Meadowlands.
The Giants and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. have agreed to a contract to reunite after seven years apart and a year out of the NFL in 2025 for OBJ that featured a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. But with Malik Nabers still recovering from his season-ending injury last season and gadget-guy Gunnar Olszewski tearing his achilles in OTAs, the Giants and Jaxon Dart can use all the help they can get.
For a stretch from his rookie year in 2014 to 2016, Beckham was one of the most exciting wide receivers in the NFL. En route to winning Offensive Rookie of the Year, he racked up 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns, including one of the most absurd catches of all-time on Sunday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys. Since he was traded from the Giants to the Browns in 2019, OBJ has gone from focal point to journeyman, but he did get a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI. Despite limited action that regular season, he made an impact lifting the Lombardi catching two passes for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Rams 23-20 win over Cincinnati in 2021-22.
Since then he’s caught just 41 passes and spent two whole seasons out of the league, but could provide a valuable veteran presence for an offense brimming with young talent.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. There have been 35 players to reach the 1,000-yard milestone as a rookie receiver. How many of those players can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
