The 'NFL active TD-pass leaders' quiz

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye are both former third-overall NFL Draft picks, but have had very different routes to their first Super Bowl. 

While Maye and the Pats made a 10-win jump from his rookie year last season, Darnold’s path has been more circuitous. After being drafted by the Jets in 2018, he struggled as a starter in New York and then Carolina before backing up Brock Purdy for a season in San Francisco. 

Now, he’s coming off of 28-combined regular season wins between the Vikings last year and the Seahawks this year while working to shed the reputation of a player who struggles on the biggest stages. Not much was required from him in the Divisional Round rout of the 49ers, but he threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns without an interception in the NFC Championship against the Rams. 

Six seasons after Darnold was “seeing ghosts,” against the Patriots, he’ll get a chance to beat them for a Lombardi Trophy.
