Happy 64th birthday to 10-time First-Team All-Pro wide receiver, two-time Offensive Player of the Year, three-time Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl XXIII MVP, Jerry Rice!
Rice was a first-round selection in the 1985 draft out of Mississippi Valley State by the San Francisco 49ers, and he went on to become the greatest wide receiver in NFL history. He immediately contributed as a rookie in 1985, catching 49 passes for 927 yards and three touchdowns.
Rice wouldn't have fewer than 1,000 yards or eight touchdowns in a season for the next 11 campaigns, leading the NFL in receiving yards and touchdowns six times each in that span. He also helped the Niners to three Super Bowl titles between 1988 and 1994, catching 28 passes for 512 yards and seven touchdowns in those appearances, and his 215 yards in Super Bowl XXIII are still an all-time record.
Rice joined the Raiders in 2000 after 16 years as a 49er, where he spent four seasons and experienced his only Super Bowl defeat against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before finishing his career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2004.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Even 22 years after his retirement, Rice is still the NFL’s all-time leader in receiving yards (22,895), receptions (1,549) and touchdown catches (197). With that being said, can you name the players to catch the most touchdowns in NFL history?
Good luck!
