Happy 48th birthday to eight-time Pro Bowler, four-time All-Pro, 2000 Defensive Rookie of the Year and 2005 Defensive Player of the Year, Brian Urlacher!
Urlacher was the ninth-overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft out of New Mexico, and he immediately became a fixture in the Chicago Bears defense. He recorded 124 tackles, eight sacks and intercepted two passes en route to Defensive Rookie of the Year honors despite a 5-11 season for Chicago.
The Pasco, Washington native went on to a Hall of Fame career with the Bears, recording nine 100-tackle seasons, racking up 41.5 sacks and snagging 22 interceptions in his 13-year career. In 2005 he led the NFL’s best defensive unit to the Bears second Super Bowl appearance in franchise history and was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Urlacher retired after the 2012 season and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the Class of 2018.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the NFL players to be named Defensive Rookie of the Year since 2000 can you name in five minutes?
