For the past two days, the NFL has stated that Monday night's playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings will be played at SoFi Stadium. Moments ago, the league announced that it's actually relocating this NFC showdown to Arizona.
Due to the wildfires in California, the NFL is moving the Rams-Vikings playoff game to State Farm Stadium in Glendale. Earlier this Thursday, the Rams said that was the league's contingency plan. Well, now it's a reality.
"In the interest of public safety, Monday's Vikings-Rams Wild Card game has been moved from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA to State Farm Stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals, the NFL announced today," the NFL said. "The decision was made in consultation with public officials, the participating clubs and the NFLPA."
Although the location for Monday's game has changed, the kickoff time remains the same. The Rams and Vikings will kick off at 8 p.m. ET. This playoff matchup will be televised on ESPN, ABC, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes.
The NFL will put tickets on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. PT for Rams season ticket holders. The general public will be allowed to purchase tickets two hours later.
Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell was asked about the NFL possibly relocating this game during his press conference on Thursday.
"You feel helpless watching it from here and knowing how many people are impacted. Southern California I hold near and dear to my heart, I have some friends that have lost homes. Our prayers are with all those impacted," O’Connell said. "Monday night’s game, I know it’s going to be played, we’re going to play the football game regardless of where our plane lands."
As for Rams coach Sean McVay, he said his focus is also on those affected by the fire. He told reporters, "It’s one of those deals that almost doesn’t feel real, but it certainly is real to the people who are affected."
Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this tragedy in California.
