Defensive end Trey Hendrickson was not fined by the NFL for his roughing the passer penalty in the Cincinnati Bengals' 17-16 Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns.
The penalty happened on the very first play of the second quarter. Hendrickson went past a chip block from rookie running back Dylan Sampson and fought through right tackle Jack Conklin in order to get to quarterback Joe Flacco. Right after Flacco released his pass to Sampson, Hendrickson's outstretched left hand made contact with Flacco's face mask, which is considering roughing the passer.

What made the play go viral was Hendrickson's reaction. After the penalty was announced, Hendrickson imitated himself crying at the referees who made the call.

Hendrickson has been fined four times in his now nine-year career. He's been fined in each of the previous three seasons for roughing the passer, and his most recent infraction was in Week 5 of the 2024 season against QB Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
The league has taken a total of $72,883 of Hendrickson's money for these instances, but they spared his wallet this week at least. The 2024 All-Pro is just under three weeks removed from signing a revised one-year, $29 million contract, and a little bit of that money is being taken by the NFL.
There was one fine given out from this game, and it has Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy's name on it. Jeudy was fined $11,593 for taunting on the penultimate play of the first quarter, so it happened mere moments before Hendrickson's penalty.
Cleveland did ultimately score a touchdown just four plays after Hendrickson's infraction, but at least it didn't end up costing them the game or the four-time Pro Bowler any of the money he recently earned.
Good on the league for assessing it was not a necessary punishment for Hendrickson.
