New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs faces charges from an alleged incident earlier this month.
According to Boston 25 News, Diggs was charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery from an alleged incident on Dec. 2 after New England's Monday Night Football win over the New York Giants. The NFL released a brief statement on the matter Tuesday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club," the NFL said. "We have no further comment at this time."
The Patriots released their own statement shared shortly after the news broke.
"The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs," the team said. "Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time."
Diggs' attorney, David Meier, denied all wrongdoing in a statement shared by Ethan Hurwitz of WHDH Boston.
"Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations," the statement said. "They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated because they did not occur. The timing and motivation of making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee's satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law."
No further details about the alleged incident are available at this time.
Diggs has returned from a torn ACL to post a team-leading 82 catches and 970 receiving yards in 2025. The 32-year-old has exceeded 100 yards in consecutive Patriots wins, collecting 101 and a touchdown in Sunday's 42-10 victory over the New York Jets.
