After reaching the postseason for the first time in the Bryce Young Era, the Carolina Panthers are committing to the former No. 1-overall pick for at least one more season by picking up his fifth-year option.
Despite the Panthers winning the NFC South and pushing the Los Angeles Rams to the edge in the Wild Card, many of the consistency issues that plagued the 2023 top-overall draft pick in his first two seasons were present in his third year. In Week 11 against the Atlanta Falcons, he set a Panthers record by racking up 448 passing yards and three touchdowns in an overtime. Six weeks later against the Seattle Seahawks, he threw for just 54 yards and an interception in a 27-10 loss.
His playoff debut was a microcosm of his time with the Panthers so far. He and the offense got off to a slow start, with just one first down, a turnover on downs and an interception in the first quarter. They ended the game with 34 points, with Young rushing for a touchdown just before halftime and throwing a clutch go-ahead TD to Jalen Coker late in the fourth quarter.
Even with the ups and downs of Young’s season and a home loss in the playoffs, Young showed progress in Year 3. He posted career highs in passing yards (3,011), touchdowns (23) while winning more games (eight) than his first two campaigns combined (six).
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Young was drafted by the Panthers to help them escape some of the darkest days in franchise history, and a playoff berth is the first real step in that direction. With that being said, how many of the players taken with the first-overall pick of the NFL Draft in the Super Bowl Era (since 1966) can you name in eight minutes?
Good luck!
