After an Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign in 2023 and leading the Houston Texans to the playoffs in each of his first three professional seasons, a contract extension of some sort is in his future.
But despite reportedly receiving an offer in the realm of $50 million per year, Stroud is apparently betting on himself (and the ever-more lucrative quarterback market) to get an even bigger payday next offseason.
Stroud took the NFL by storm as a rookie with 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns to just five interceptions; he's since struggled, especially when playing on the biggest stage. After throwing for 274 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-14 win over Cleveland in the 2024 AFC Wild Card, he’s combined for just three touchdowns to six picks in five games since, with the low-point coming in a four-INT performance against New England last year.
He’s also coming off of his least-productive regular season, throwing a career-worst 3,041 yards and 19 TDs to eight interceptions in 14 games. If he wants to get the payday he’s looking for, he’s going to need to find more of his rookie form.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the players to be named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year since 1997 can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
