The Philadelphia Eagles are in the middle of another good season, and while there have been some bumps in the road, like always, the team is winning games. Regardless of the dramatic headlines surrounding the franchise, the Eagles will be in the mix at the end of the season, fighting for a championship. General manager Howie Roseman made sure of that by assembling such a talented roster, and his work may not be done yet.
Philadelphia isn’t shy about making in-season moves that will help it reach its goals, and Roseman could have a few ideas up his sleeve as next month's trade deadline approaches. One trade target the Eagles could have their eyes on is Miami Dolphins edge defender Jaelan Phillips. Sayre Bedinger, of NFL Spin Zone, recently named Phillips as a name that could be on the move, and Philadelphia was named as a potential landing spot.
Bedinger laid out all the reasons why Phillips could be on the move this season: he’s a productive player in the final year of his contract, on a struggling team. Phillips checks about every box of a mid-season trade target for a contending team. If Miami can’t things turned around, and isn’t confident in the franchise’s ability to re-sign the young outside linebacker, Phillips could be finishing the season on a new team.
The Eagles may not be the team that needs him the most, but that has never stopped Roseman from making a deal. It never hurts to have more pass-rushing help, and that’s exactly what Phillips is. In five games this season, the veteran defender has just one sack, but his presence has been evident with eight total pressures. He has also improved each week, after injuries limited him to just 12 total games the last two seasons.
Philadelphia could go after Phillips, giving him room to thrive on an already talented defense. It may not be a move many people are considering, but history has shown fans shouldn’t put anything past Roseman.
