The Packers Look to Clean Up the Slop

The Green Bay Packers head to Dallas for a Sunday Night Football battle. The Packers are hungry to get back on track after a disappointing loss to the Browns. The key to victories for the Packers will be reducing the self-inflicting mistakes – penalties, turnovers, botched special teams operations, etc.

The Packers melted down in Cleveland, as the Browns handed Green Bay their first loss in 2025. Despite numerous errors, Green Bay controlled that game and were one play away from a win. However, costly penalties that stalled offensive drives, an untimely interception, and poor field goal protection was simply too much for the Packers to overcome. Despite two pretty solid performances to start the year, Green Bay was humbled in this loss.

The Cowboys welcome Green Bay to Dallas this weekend in a game that features Parsons returns, two heavy weight franchises, and two teams coming off a loss. The Cowboys cannot afford to fall to 1-3 while the Packers want to respond and get back on track after a disastrous loss. The Cowboys struggling defense might give the Packers offense, who looked sloppy against the Browns, the chance to get back on track. But, the Dallas D will certainly want to play well with their new DT and former Packer Kenny Clark to make a statement.

The Packers Must Limit the Errors

Green Bay played a sloppy game in Cleveland. The team accounted for 14 penalties. About half of those penalties were procedural issues like false starts or offsides. These penalties simply require better focus and more attention to detail. It’s extremely difficult to win a game in the NFL with that many penalties. Hopefully, the Packers will be much more locked in this week.

The area of most concern against the Browns was the play of the offensive line. It was an awful showing up front. The Browns do have a strong defensive line and are considered to be one of the best defenses in the NFL. In fact, the five lowest graded Packers on PFF’s grading system was the entire offensive line. The Packers struggled to communicate up front and heading into a packed AT&T Stadium, the silent count and communication must improve.

The Packers head into their bye week after this Cowboys game. The team has an opportunity to discard the bad taste from their mouth and right the ship. So far in 2025, it’s clear the Packers can play well in Green Bay but not so much on the road. A cleaner, mistake minimized game and a road victory this week would certainly get the vibes back on track.
