The perfect plan to prepare for Lamar Jackson exists, but the Lions probably won't do it

Just thinking out loud here, is there really a way to stop Lamar Jackson? No, not really. But you can contain him. It's been done before. I promise you, teams have done it. Can the Detroit Lions do it? We're going to find out on Monday. It is worth noting that on Sunday, they were able to keep Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams from getting super mobile on them.

Part of that stemmed from the team using Kyle Allen as a simulated version of Williams all week. Lions head coach Dan Campbell and company seemingly had Allen running all over the place and had the team try to catch him. You can bet they'll probably do something similar to that this week. On top of that, they'll have the newly signed Malik Cunningham in the building. He was a receiver for the Ravens this summer, but was also a quarterback for the Patriots. Maybe they have him do some Jackson simulation as well. Still, I think there's one more plan that I would personally do if I were the Lions.

Have Jameson Williams pretend to be Lamar Jackson

I know it sounds simple, right? Lamar Jackson is super fast and shifty, and so is Jameson Williams. So why not slap the red jersey on Jamo and let the Lions defense chase him around for an hour? There would be more to it than that. The idea is that you'd want to run some real plays and put Williams in situations where he has to think like Jackson and take action like Jackson would. I wasn't trying to make an Action Jackson joke there. That's a fun 80s movie, by the way.

That's the point of the simulation, in my opinion. You don't want to just chase Jackson around; you want to try to understand and predict what Jackson will do, and then you want to be able to stop him once he makes his move. Kyle Allen is great, but he's not presenting the speed and shiftiness that Williams can. Plus, he's not thinking about how he can make a man miss the way that Williams does, and obviously, Allen can't actually make guys miss the way Williams does.

That's my idea. That's how I would do it. But mocking things up with Allen and Cunningham is still a good plan, and the Lions will likely utilize it.
