The Philadelphia Eagles Are Jordan Love’s Next Benchmark

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has already accomplished a lot in his young career, and for the most part, has been excellent this season.

Just over two weeks ago, Love cemented his status by defeating his mentor, Aaron Rodgers, and that performance, as well his outing against the Dallas Cowboys, easily challenge for the best regular season stat lines of his tenure as the starter thus far.

The Eagles however, have been somewhat of a boogeyman, producing Love’s worst record against any team in the NFL across the regular season and playoffs at 0-3.

Prior to their matchup tonight on Monday Night Football, let’s take a look back at the Packers’ previous bouts against Philadelphia in the Jordan Love era.

November 27th, 2022: Eagles 40, Packers 33

To be clear, this loss wasn’t on Jordan Love.

He wasn’t even the Green Bay Packers’ starting quarterback by this point.

But there was an importance to his showing in relief of Aaron Rodgers, in that it was one of a few key appearances in his journey that seemed to indicate that he could be the next man up.

Rodgers exited with injured ribs after the Packers’ final drive of the third quarter, behind 37-23, and in came Jordan Love, with only one career start to his name.

What happened next was nearly a comeback.

Love led Green Bay down the field in just over two minutes on his first drive, throwing a sixty-three yard touchdown pass to a rookie Christian Watson to cut the lead to seven.

Sadly, the defense couldn’t get off the field, and the Eagles were able to add a field goal.

In response, the young backup led another scoring drive, this time ending in three points of his own, but it wasn’t enough.

Philadelphia won by a touchdown, and the writing was on the wall.

As the Packers fell to 4-8, Rodgers’ time as the starter was dwindling, and Love was beginning to rise.

September 6th, 2024: Eagles 34, Packers 29

Love’s second loss to the Eagles came overseas in Brazil, and it nearly cost him the entire 2024 campaign.

The season opener had started fast, with the two teams producing a total of four touchdowns in the second quarter, and thirty-six points combined before the half.

The Packers looked explosive with two thirty-plus yard scoring plays, and new kicker Brayden Narveson seemed reliable.

Unfortunately, things changed all too quickly.

After again trading touchdowns to start the third quarter, both teams slowed down, and the Eagles managed to secure a 34-29 lead.

In the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, while trying to manufacture a game-tying drive, Love went down awkwardly, and the season flashed before fans’ eyes.

What was initially feared to be a more serious injury was actually a sprained MCL, and while Love returned after two games, his mobility was affected throughout the year, as he was never 100%.

Regardless, the Green Bay Packers fought, and eventually snuck into a Wild Card spot to face Philadelphia again.

January 12th, 2025: Eagles 22, Packers 10

This defeat is easily the most painful, mostly due to its playoff nature, but I think that it stings a bit more for myself than most cheeseheads.

The Packers have been the youngest team in the NFL since 2023, and making the playoffs for a second consecutive year under Love in an uber-talented NFC North, especially in the face of his injury, was an achievement in it of itself.

Looking at the dominoes that fell after however, one can’t help but be disappointed.

Green Bay held an Eagles team that went on to blow out two of their next three opponents to just 22 points, which made the path to the Super Bowl appear wide open, whether or not it actually would have been.

Instead of advancing though, the offense and special teams struggled.

The Green Bay Packers fumbled the opening kickoff and quickly surrendered a touchdown, which killed any confidence immediately, and Jordan Love threw two interceptions in the second quarter while down only ten.

The outcome was a handful of could’ve beens, and likely, a bad taste in Love’s mouth.

November 10th, 2025: ?

So, what does the next chapter of Jordan Love’s story against the Philadelphia Eagles entail?

A Frozen Tundra, to start.

At the beginning of the week, flurries were expected at Lambeau, but as of the latest update, the game time temperature is supposed to be in the twenties, with no snow.

In addition to the frigid environment, the Green Bay Packers may also be down several weapons, as receivers Matthew Golden, Dontayvion Wicks, and Savion Williams are all listed as questionable at the time of this article’s posting, as well as offensive tackle Zach Tom.

The resulting challenge will be steep, and although the Eagles have had one confusing loss of their own, they’re still one of the NFL’s best teams, without a doubt.

Coming off an embarrassing loss to the Panthers—who this week fell to the one-win Saints—Green Bay has a lot to prove in regard to their Super Bowl acumen.

The defending champions have been the stewards of several critical moments in Jordan Love’s career already, and in his continued ascension, they’re the next hill to climb.
