The Las Vegas Raiders entered the 2025 season with high hopes and expectations.
Pairing Geno Smith with Ashton Jeanty and Brock Bowers and signing Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator was promising. Also, having Pete Carroll calling the shots made it seem as if they were ready to build a winning culture again.
Fast forward to today, and they've won just two games and are more than likely to get the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
That's why it's not much of a surprise to hear that Carroll is unlikely to return as coach next season.
According to a report by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Raiders will move on from Carroll, who might also consider retirement.
Sources: The expectation is that #Raiders HC Pete Carroll will be one-and-done in Las Vegas — whether that ends up being a firing or a retirement.

The Raiders should be an appealing destination for multiple head coaching candidates.
They have some young pieces, an elite pass rusher in Maxx Crosby and a top-two draft pick at worst.
And even though they might not be just a quarterback away from contention, we've seen how hiring the right guy to lead the team can turn a franchise around overnight, and there should be no shortage of potential candidates in Sin City.
