The Saints Are Rumored To Make Notable Trade Before Deadline

With the NFL trade deadline slowly but surely approaching, it's no secret the New Orleans Saints will be sellers.

Although the Saints picked up their first under Kellen Moore last weekend, the front office knows this team isn't ready to contend. That could lead to some tough decisions over the next few weeks.

According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, there are teams around the league interested in a few veterans on the Saints. He didn't mention any players by name, but it sure sounds like Rashid Shaheed is one of them.

Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan said the Pittsburgh Steelers are interested in acquiring Shaheed. It's unclear what they're willing to offer though.

"The Steelers reached out to the Saints during the bye week to take their temperature on WR Rashid Shaheed," Fillipponi wrote on X. "Who will be a FA at the end of the year. Big play WR and return man. Trades are being made in the NFL left and right."

Shaheed currently has 22 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns this season. Since turning pro in 2022, he has averaged a whopping 15.9 yards per catch.

Who else could be on the move?

If the Saints are unsure about Chris Olave, they could potentially trade him for a Day 2 pick. The former Ohio State star has 224 catches for 2,809 yards and 11 touchdowns in 44 career games.

Some aging players on the Saints like Demario Davis, Cameron Jordan and Alvin Kamara could be mentioned in trade talks. There's no guarantee they want to leave New Orleans though.

Last November, the Saints traded Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore to the Washington Commanders for a plethora of mid-round draft picks. We'll see if general manager Mickey Loomis makes yet another blockbuster deal before the deadline.
