The New Orleans Saints have made another decision at quarterback. Derek Carr just retired, and they picked Tyler Shough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Their latest addition will be hungry to make an impact and prove he's been underrated through the process so far.
The Saints have signed rookie quarterback Hunter Dekkers. He went undrafted during the 2025 NFL Draft.
Saints also intend to sign undrafted rookie QB Hunter Dekkers, pending a physical, per source. Former Iowa State QB who finished career at Iowa Western tried out during the Saints' rookie minicamp. And there is now officially a fourth-QB spot available.
That signing has since become official since Triplett's original report, according to Nick Underhill. New Orleans now has four quarterbacks on their roster as the middle of May approaches.

I wrote about the intrigue of Dekkers' skillset earlier in the offseason when he was invited to minicamp, following the conclusion of the draft. The Saints have had their eye on him for some time and want to see more. Dekkers played at Iowa Western Community College last season.
Earlier in his college career, Dekkers was a quarterback for the Iowa State Cyclones. Many saw a bright future ahead of him with ISU. Unfortunately, his time as a Cyclone ended abruptly after he permanently lost his NCAA eligibility due to gambling on Iowa State games.
Dekkers has also been working with former NFL head coach Jon Gruden. The long-time football mind has advocated for Dekker's potential and talent so far throughout this NFL Draft process for him. -- A to Z Sports
Perhaps the most intriguing prospect at today's pro day isn't even from USD.

Iowa Western CC's Hunter Dekkers has looked really good today. A lot of zip and his deep passes have been very accurate.
Obviously, he's one of the more interesting stories in this year's draft. pic.twitter.com/jQdcdODcse
New Orleans is releasing defensive back Millard Bradford and running back Jordan Mims to create room for the addition of Dekkers and veteran wide receiver Donovan peoples-Jones. The Saints also signed safety Terrell Burgess. He recently tried out as well.
We will see if Dekkers can attempt to vault over Jake Haener to be the third QB on the depth chart. If he really impresses, the young QB may even be able to grab the backup job at some point.
With so much unknown at the position, it is impossible to rule out just about any outcome for Kellen Moore's quarterback room this season.
