The Steelers just doubled down on their controversial offseason after signing key decision-maker to contract extension

If this past week proved anything with certainty, it's that the Pittsburgh Steelers aren't operating as they used to

They cherry on top of what was an offseason of renewal, many credited, while others criticized Omar Khan for the trade that sent Minkah Fitzpatrick to Miami for Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith.

Art Rooney and the rest of the Steelers brass were a part of the former group...

Steelers sign Omar Khan to three-year contract extension

"I am excited to announce we have signed Omar to a new three-year contract," Steelers President Art Rooney II told Steelers.com. "Omar and his team have done a great job over the past three years in constructing our roster through the NFL Draft, strategic trades, and free agency. We look forward to continuing that trend that will lead to even more success on the field."

Khan first took over for long time GM Kevin Colbert following the 2022 NFL Draft. What's notable about that timeline and even prior drafts is that Khan made no bones about moving on from early-round picks, including Najee Harris, Kenny Pickett and George Pickens.

And while that was largely out of character, the past two offseasons were a whole new brand of Steelers team building. Khan signed Patrick Queen to the largest free agent deal in team history in 2024.

He followed that up by not only trading a second-round pick for DK Metcalf, but then paying him atop the WR market. And just this week, he sent one of the faces of the franchise packing in exchange for a pair of Pro Bowlers that never played for the Steelers, and gave them both a raise.

His short tenure has put many in the league on notice: This isn't the same old Steelers.

"I would like to thank Art Rooney II for his support," said Khan. "I believe we are building a championship roster and look forward to the 2025 season and beyond as our goals continue to be to bring another Super Bowl to the City of Pittsburgh and our great fans."

And while most decisions come with the signoff, if not push from Coach Tomlin, it's clear that Khan has done a fantastic job both acquiring draft capital and hitting on the picks.

Trading Chase Claypool for a pick that netted them Joey Porter Jr. proves as much.

So right or wrong, the higher ups in Pittsburgh are telling you that they believe in Khan and Tomlin by extending them in back to back offseasons.

It's up to them to prove the brass right and everyone else wrong.
