The Pittsburgh Steelers will face the Chicago Bears in Week 12, and it won’t be an easy game. Both teams are coming off of exhilarating divisional wins in Week 11, and they are both in first place in their division. This game will be a battle of the North Division leaders, but someone won’t be the leader in their division after this game. The Steelers can beat the Bears, but it will have to be a collective team effort.
The two newest Steelers didn’t get to suit up in Week 11, but it’s time to cut them loose. Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Asante Samuel can both be contributors to the team. Despite great games from Joey Porter Jr and James Pierre in Week 11, Pittsburgh could use all the help it can get in the cornerback department. Samuel will be a great addition. The offense needs another weapon. It couldn’t hurt to add Valdes-Scantling to the mix.
D.K. Metcalf has now stacked underwhelming weeks, but Chicago could be the perfect slump buster for him. They allow 154 receiving yards per game to receivers and 14 touchdowns to the position group in 10 games. Metcalf hasn’t found the endzone since Week 8 against the Green Bay Packers, but a touchdown against the Bears will make him 3/3 against NFC North teams this season. Regardless of who the quarterback is, he needs to feed Metcalf.
Jaylen Warren sustained an ankle injury in the Steelers’ Week 11 win, but Kenneth Gainwell stepped into his place smoothly and put the Steelers’ offense on his back. Whoever is playing in Week 12 needs to have a good game. Chicago is allowing 103 rushing yards per game and nine touchdowns in 10 games to running backs. Establishing the run will be a recipe for success in the Windy City.
The Bears are a good football team, but a large portion of their success has come from taking the ball away from opponents. They lead the NFL with 22 takeaways in 10 games. The Steelers have to limit those opportunities for Ben Johnson’s team. Don’t give them free possessions with good field position. Strap in and protect the pigskin. Keeping the ball out of Caleb Williams’ hands will result in success for Pittsburgh. Winning the time of possession battle feels impossible for the Steelers, but it would go a long way in Week 12.
The Steelers are 1-12 all-time when they go to Chicago. Their only win came in 1995. Pittsburgh is 8-19 against the Bears in total. Historically, Chicago owns Pittsburgh, but that needs to change in Week 12. Last time the teams met in 2021, the Steelers won while T.J. Watt got three sacks and Pat Freiermuth scored two touchdowns. They will need a similar performance from both players to pick up a win in Week 12.
Pittsburgh is up to 6-4 after the win against the Cincinnati Bengals, but there is no time to rest. They have to keep stacking wins with the Baltimore Ravens closely gaining on them in the division. With six games remaining, the Steelers have no choice but to win a minimum of four of them while dominating the divisional matchups. If this team wants to sniff the playoffs, they will need to reach 10 wins or more. A win in the Windy City would be a great start to the home stretch.
