The Stone Forsythe experience went as expected

The Las Vegas Raiders were always going to be up against it facing the Indianapolis Colts.

On top of all of the issues going into the matchup, the Raiders found out last week that offensive tackle Kolton Miller needed to go on injured reserve. The longtime left tackle was revealed to have suffered a hairline fracture in his ankle against the Chicago Bears, and his status guaranteed he will miss the next the three games after the Colts matchup. Waiver acquisition Stone Forsythe played the only offensive snap after Miller went down, and received the start for the Raiders in Indianapolis.

The results did not paint a pretty picture about what the offensive line was going to be like in that time.

Forsythe predictably struggled against the Colts.

The Colts came in to the game with a pass-rushing unit that was not particularly fearsome, but Forsythe struggled all the same.

He was responsible for one of the two sacks on Geno Smith, as well as a team-high four pressures. Somehow, Forsythe finished with a higher Pro Football Focus pass protection grade than Jordan Meredith or Jackson Powers-Johnson, neither of whom gave up more than two pressures. Smith’s struggles did not exactly help his offensive line’s case, but Forsythe did himself no favors in this matchup.

With a matchup against the fellow 1-4 Tennessee Titans on the horizon, Forsythe finds himself in jeopardy already.

It is unlikely that the Raiders bench Forsythe after one game, but similar struggles against the Titans would pose another red flag. Third-round rookie Charles Grant is looming in the distance, and two straight poor outings could give the team the excuse to see what they have.

Forsythe’s first impression with the Raiders was not particularly memorable, and he now needs to work harder to ensure he remains in the lineup going forward.
