The New England Patriots did not have a strong performance in Super Bowl LX against the Seattle Seahawks. But with the rematch set to open the 2026-27 NFL season, quarterback Drake Maye talked about what that looming matchup might mean for their offseason preparation.
“I think it’s a chance for us to get some extra motivation during training camp,” he told the NFL’s Nick Shook.
“Starting off with a bang like that, a chance to get an opponent that left a bad state in your mouth. So, I think it’s something that’s going to really make us work.”
That mentality will be good to hear for Patriots fans worried about regression from the 2024 third-overall NFL Draft pick. In his second season as a pro, Maye racked up 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns with an NFL-best completion percentage of 72, but he struggled mightily in the Super Bowl. While his numbers were inflated a bit as the Patriots tried to rally, he finished with 295 yards and two touchdowns to go with two interceptions and six sacks taken in the 29-13 loss.
