Happy 29th birthday to two-time Pro Bowler and reigning Super Bowl champion, Sam Darnold!
Just eight years into his professional career, Darnold has had a remarkable NFL journey. He was selected third-overall in the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Jets and his tenure there – like many before him – was a disaster. He started 38 games in three seasons with the Jets, going just 13-25 with 45 touchdowns and 39 interceptions before being traded to the Carolina Panthers.
Things went a little better for him there record wise, going 8-9. But he still threw as many interceptions as touchdowns, and he joined San Francisco to backup Mac Jones in 2023 where he made it to the Super Bowl for the first time. He joined Minnesota as the presumed backup to first-round draft pick J.J. McCarthy for the 2024 season, but a training camp injury to McCarthy opened the door for Darnold to start once again.
He ran with that opportunity, winning 14 games and throwing for a career-high 4,319 yards with 35 touchdowns and 12 picks, but back-to-back stinkers (one with a chance to clinch the NFC’s top-seed, the other in the ensuing Wild Card loss to the Rams) meant many thought his campaign was a fluke.
In 2025, he proved that wrong with another 4,000-yard, 14-win season en route to a Super Bowl title in his first season as a Seattle Seahawk.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. How many of the starting quarterbacks for each Super Bowl winner can you name in six minutes?
