The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Have Placed This Undrafted Free Agent on IR-Will Miss at Least 4 Weeks.
Gregory Fisher-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed wide receiver Rakim Jarrett on injured reserve. Jarrett suffered a quad injury in their 14-27 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He will be out for at least four weeks.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie played college football at Maryland.

Jarrett originally committed to LSU but flipped his commitment to Maryland as a five-star recruit for the 2020 season. He appeared in four games during his freshman season. He had 17 receptions for 252 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. He was the second-leading receiver behind Dontay Demus. He was a 2020 All-Big Ten honorable mention.

He led the team in receiving during his sophomore season. He had 62 receptions for 829 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. He was a 2021 All-Big Ten honorable mention, Phil Steele Third Team All-Big Ten, and a PFF Honorable Mention All-Big Ten.

He was limited to 11 games and was the third-leading receiver in his final season with Maryland. He had 40 receptions for 471 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. He was a 2022 All-Big Ten honorable mention.

He missed the regular season finale with a knee injury. He declared for the 2023 draft and decided not to play in their bowl game.

Rakim’s pre-draft scouting report.

NFL Network’s Lance Zierlein gave a critical pre-draft scouting report on Rakim Jarrett:

“Jarrett is a slot receiver with an excellent build, plus speed and good athleticism, but he’s missing necessary ingredients to succeed at the position. It doesn’t take long to see the physical gifts on tape, but Jarrett’s lack of route-running fundamentals and ball skills catch up with him too often. His tape is filled with slants, digs and quick-game throws; he struggles to manipulate defenders with his routes and comes out on the wrong end when throws are contested. He’s a better athlete than receiver as he enters the draft, but he does have athletic tools for cultivation if a team can get it done.”

Zierlein projected Jarrett to be a fifth or sixth-round pick.

The 2023 draft.

Jarrett went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023.

Jarrett’s rookie season.

Jarrett competed for the final wide receiver spot on the roster. He had an impressive rookie camp and didn’t slow down. He made the 53-man roster because Russell Gage suffered a ruptured patella tendon during training camp.

Jarrett has appeared in every game during his rookie season. He has four receptions for 60 receiving yards on nine targets, representing 18% of offensive snaps. His biggest gainer came in Week 11 against the San Francisco 49ers, where he had a 41-yard reception.

Hopefully, Rakim Jarrett will make a speedy recovery.
