The wide receiver prospect who checks every box for the Packers in the draft

The Green Bay Packers have a clear preferred profile at the wide receiver position in the draft. There might be a perception that the team doesn't value the position at all, and that's probably wrong-although it's fair to say that it puts less value in it than the general public or most of the other NFL franchises.

If the first round has always felt too high for Ron Wolf, Ted Thompson, and Brian Gutekunst to address the position, it's been frequent for all of them to take offensive weapons with athletic ability and college production on Day 2.

This cycle, there is a specific name with the ideal profile for what the Packers tend to like.

It's Tre Harris, who started his college career at Louisiana Tech and played the last two seasons for Ole Miss.

He is 6'3", 210 pounds, so he clears the size threshold. He is not exactly a young prospect and will be 23 by his rookie season, but he had three college seasons with at least 900 receiving yards. Last season, Harris had 59 receptions for 987 yards, and six touchdowns.

Snaps

Tre Harris played only eight games in 2024. Yet, he was still able to be highly productive in 214 pass snaps. The alignment versatility is a notable part of his game, as he had 184 snaps as a boundary receiver and 29 in the slot. He had also had a significant amount of slot snaps in his previous two seasons.

Stats

In 2024, Harris was targeted 76 times, finishing the season with 1,030 yards, 17.2 yards per reception, and seven touchdowns. He dropped five passes, forced 11 missed tackles, and had nine deep catches. The receiver averaged 7.7 yards after the catch per reception, with a solid 12.0 average depth of target.

Harris had 5.12 yards per route run and had a particularly great PFF grade (95.0) against man coverage, an area in which the Packers receiving group failed to produce in 2024.

The Packers need a wide receiver right now. Last year's group again showed signs of promise, but there were too many drops and inconsistency. Moreover, Christian Watson has an ACL injury and is expected to miss 12 weeks. Add to it the fact that Watson and Romeo Doubs are entering the final year of their rookie deals, and you have the perfect storm that might force general manager Brian Gutekunst to take action.
